It has been one year since the brutal war. Summon Night 2 tells the story of a new summoner who is seeking to finish their training. There are only two heroes from choose from this time (as with all succeeding games), and the characters are all residents of Lyndbaum, rather than hailing from the "real world".

In addition to each of your characters getting assigned a human partner, you get to choose a summon companion to join you at the beginning of the game. Other than this, some slight changes regarding class promotions and summoning abilities, and a more balanced difficulty level, Summon Night 2 is pretty much the same as the first. You can now save right before battles, which is a bit of a mixed blessing - there's no way (at least that I found) to return to the map screen, so if you want to level up or buy some more items, you're pretty much screwed. This goes for the rest of the Summon Night games, actually. This installment comes on two CDs, so it's a bit longer, and includes a gallery full of unlockable pictures.
