the reason why I don't use any Yahoo products is that the Chinese branch of Yahoo! company products an infamous malware called Yahoo! Assistant or 3721 Internet Real Name（sorry I do not know the correct translation of "网络实名") which is bundled into many Chinese or Chinese-translated sharewares and some webpages, installs automatically without knowledge of users, install a device driver called CnsMinKP.sys or yaskp.sys to prevent users from manually removing it and can't be removed completely with its own uninstaller. Many Chinese users call this a "流氓软件“(rogue software). So I decided not to use Yahoo! products anymore after Yahoo! bought 3721 company.
Why ICQ and Yahoo Messenger are unpopular is just that Tencent QQ have a dominance in China's IM market since 2000 and the strong user base of Windows (mostly pirate copies) in China which makes many power users choose MSN Messenger.
